Well we made it to May! It will be an unusual end to our unusual semester. Three weeks of regular lessons remain and our recital.  Because school-aged students will continue with home-based work, we will continue to have our lessons online.  If you are interested in resuming in-person lessons for May, please get in touch with me and we’ll make the arrangements for a time that will work.

Schreiner University campus will be closed so our recital will be held online this year.  But this opens up new opportunities for sharing with family and friends.  I’ve put the details with instructions below.  Looking forward to this new adventure!

Spring Recital
Our spring recital will be broadcast live online!  Just a few simple steps and we’ll have a way to perform our recital for all our family and friends.

1. Mirabilis Guitarists will record a video performance of their recital piece using phone/camera at home.
2. You will then upload the videos to my Dropbox
3. I will assemble these into single “Video Recital”
4. I will send you a link to view the broadcast. The recital will be broadcast at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 17th.
5. The live recital will be viewable only by those who have the link, but you may forward the link to as many family and friends as you like.
6. After the broadcast, the video will be viewable to the public on YouTube.  (Students can opt-out their videos for this if they so wish.)

So this week we need to finalize your recital selections.  Remember to choose a piece that you are comfortable playing and that you enjoy.  It does not have to be your most recent or most difficult piece.  If you would like to record a duet with me we can make arrangements for that.  Just let me know.

Most of you know how to record a video with your phone.  I will send out more detailed how-to’s regarding “uploading” and “link sharing” later this week.

Our summer session will run from early June through the end of July this year.

My hope is that we will be back to regular lesson situation for the summer session.  As you all know the situation surrounding the spread of COVID-19 changes daily, so we will re-visit the status of things at the end of the month.

Whatever the situation, students will still have the option of taking lessons on-line if they so choose.  One of the positives of staying in place is that we’ve realized that online lessons can work.  There are certain limitations, of course, but not as many as we might have thought.  So let me know if you have any particular concerns as we move forward.
