Happy 2025!!

We’re fully into our new semester and the New Year.  Spring semester we focus more on solo and duo music. Our first master class will be the second week of February, where students will have a chance to practice solo performance.  And our Musical Field Trip will be March 1.  See all of the details and the calendar below.

Master Class Week

Next week is our first Master Class Week of the semester! In our Master Classes we meet by age group and work on performance practice. We also focus on a special musical topic or exercise for study.

New beginner students will have regular lessons.
You may also schedule a make-up lesson this week if you are in need.

Adult students, please note the new location for our master class.

Here is the Master Class Schedule:

Monday, February 10 (Piano Room, 2nd Floor of Music Building)
4:00 – 4:55   Elementary School
5:00 – 5:55   Middle School
6:00 – 7:00  High School

Tuesday, February 11 (CCAC* Theater, 1st Floor at the back of the building)
6:00 – 8:00 Adult

*The CCAC building is the large building in front of you as you enter the campus. (Bldg #2 on the campus map). Follow the loop to the left as if you are going to the Rock House. The CCAC will be the first building on the right. Parking should be plentiful there. Walk through the patio to the entrance and enter the doors to the right. Go straight to the back of the building. The theater is on the right side at the back.

Mirabilis Mystery Tour! (A Field Trip)

Well our long-awaited Field Trip is finally around the corner.  On Saturday, March 1 at 10:00am we will be visiting Hearts Home Acoustics in Boerne. This impressive store has a great variety of acoustic instruments and the owner, Chaney, has a wealth of knowledge about steel-string and nylon string acoustic instruments.  I will do a short presentation about guitar design and construction followed a question-and-answer session and then an opportunity for you to try out some of the guitars.

Our field trip will actually be before the store opens, so we will have the place to ourselves for a little while. Transportation will be on your own, but if you are interested in carpooling we will be facilitating that as well. I will need to get a head count for the trip so in the next week or so you’ll get a form with the info and a chance to sign up. Family members are welcome!

Spring Recital & Practicing

With the master classes coming next week this is a good time to begin considering what you might like to play for the Spring Recital in May. It can be a solo piece or a duet with your instructor. Choose something you enjoy! The more time you have with it the more comfortable you’ll be.

Which reminds me to remind you…Remember that regular, short practice sessions are more effective at building your skills and confidence than long, occasional ones. Just work it into your daily schedule. My daughter has begun practicing right after school and it has made a huge difference. Even 15 minutes can be effective and it makes learning so much more fun when you see yourself improving!
